Vacancy for a postdoc in Dr Fred W Van Leeuwen's lab, University of Maastricht, The Netherlands We have an opening for a behavioral neurobiologist
An estimated 20 million people worldwide are afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. In the Netherlands there are currently some 130,000 patients and this number will see a sharp rise in the upcoming decades. The research line "Alzheimer's disease" of the Department of Neuroscience at the University Maastricht carries out multidisciplinary research of this disease, using unique mouse models.
For the expansion of our team we are looking for a behavioral neurobiologist
(a) Tasks: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a multifactorial disease. Therefore we have generated a new mouse model for AD with proteasomal inhibition and a behavioral phenotype, as judged by a changed proteome and a worsened spatial memory and impaired synaptic plasticity. We will study the consequences of this treatment after RNA silencing in vivo using specific transcripts of the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway using viral tools. We are seeking an ambitious post-doc with a strong affinity for molecular biology, demonstrable experience abroad and an excellent track record as far as publications in peer-reviewed journals and the acquisition of external funds are concerned.
(b) Tasks: The practical aspects will be testing of mouse models for Alzheimer’s disease in behavioral set-ups after manipulation of the protein quality control by viral constructs using stereotactical interventions, followed by analyses of brain tissue using biochemical and immunochemical methods and electophysiological methods and in behavioral setups.
Requirements: (a) The successful candidate is a post-doc (with an article 9 qualification).
Terms of Employment: Full-time for 36 months with an evaluation after 12 months.. Maximum salary at full-time employment of ε 4374, in agreement with University payment scale 11 CAO-NU.
